There’s something about Deià that slows time down. Maybe it’s the soft golden light that spills over the mountains in the morning, or the stillness that hugs the village before the day truly begins. Either way, it’s one of those places that always feels special, especially as a backdrop to a romantic couple's photoshoot in Mallorca.
And on this particular day, it gave me something even more special: the chance to photograph a true Southern Belle.
Holly, born and raised in Savannah, Georgia, brought with her that unmistakable blend of charm, warmth, and grace that I’ve long admired from afar. Ever since I first watched Heart of Dixie (yes, it’s still my ultimate comfort series), I’ve been quietly fascinated by Southern culture—the elegance, the gentleness, the little rituals that make it so unique.
Meeting Holly felt like a scene from that show come to life.
She and her husband, RJ, had come to Mallorca for a short winter escape—a moment to breathe, reconnect, and enjoy a change of scenery before the holidays. We met early in the morning at La Residencia, Belmond, one of the most iconic spots on the island. Tucked between the mountains and the sea, it’s a dream location for any session.
The atmosphere was peaceful and intimate. We strolled through the gardens and terraces, surrounded by olive trees, with the scent of citrus in the air and the faintest sound of village life in the distance. Holly and RJ were incredibly natural together.
They told me they wanted to use these portraits for their holiday cards, which added a little sparkle of festive energy to the session. It’s always so meaningful when couples include their photos in something they’ll send to family and friends—something tangible that carries a little piece of their joy into someone else’s home.
As a photographer, I live for these kinds of mornings. When the light is just right, the couple is present and relaxed, and I get to quietly document their connection against a backdrop that already feels like a painting.
